From the Chiles Valley AVA of Napa this 100% Petit Sirah goes through a 5 day cold soak followed by a quick warm ferment due to preserve fruitiness and round off the tannic nature of grape. Lovely aromas of vanilla, blueberry and sweet oak due to the 18 months in 1st and 2nd use French oak. Dense, ripe, chocolate notes with a long, bright and silky finish.

Deep ruby red with hints of purple. Vanilla laced French Oak with an earthy dark plum and menthol characteristic. Exotic and filled with dark chocolate and fruit that dance on your palate with intense tannin structure with a long silky finish.

Maxville is nestled deep in Chiles Valley of Napa Valley where over 1,000 acres are preserved in the Napa Valley Land Trust, just over 100 acres of which are planted. Farmed since 1844, Maxville strives to uphold the promise of the land by creating the highest quality wines without compromise. Maxville’s Petite Sirah is estate bottled.

Petite Sirah may be the hidden gem of our Chiles Valley estate vineyard. Up until the 1960’s, Petite Sirah was one of the most widely planted grapes in Napa Valley. Over time, this acreage has dwindled to select heritage vineyard locations where the grape produces deep and richly textured red wines that show the distinctive character and age-ability of this grape.

Our 2 blocks of Petite Sirah were planted in 2001 with this goal in mind. Our Chiles Valley estate vineyard is located east of the valley floor, nestled in the Vaca Mountains at an elevation of 900 to 1,200 feet. Due to this higher elevation, daytime and night time temperatures are cooler, producing Petite Sirah that retains refreshing acidity alongside the signature tannins of this varietal. Separation of free run juice from press fractions before barrel aging was critical to ensure the finished wine exhibits plush, ripe tannins alongside its deep, dark berry fruit.

We have just over 5 acres of estate Petite Sirah, comprised of two distinct blocks planted to clone 3. Soil types are Haire loam and Tehama silt. Average vine age is 19 years. Vine cultivation is a cordon pruned system with spur pruning. Yields are 3 tons per acre.

5-day cold-soak followed by a quick, warm fermentation. The tannic nature of the grape doesn’t lend to extended maceration; the pomace is pressed at 1.5 Brix only using the free-run juice for the final wine. Malo-lactic fermentation was done in barrel; the wine was racked once post-malo and once pre-bottling.

The wine spent 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new.

Complex and elegant, pair this Petite Sirah with grilled meats, game meats, and hard cheeses!
