Fresh, dry, and easy‑drinking, with enticing aromas of white peach and apricot, and delicious apple and citrus flavours.
Angel & Four was founded by people who love wine - nothing fancy, nothing snobby, just good wine that people enjoy drinking. We also love wine from England; the passion, the hard work, and the craft that goes in to growing grapes and making wine on a small, over-populated and often rainy little island is what gets us out of bed in the morning.
The way sparkling wine is enjoyed has changed fundamentally over the last decade: a drink that was once (mostly) reserved for special occasions and posh restaurants, is now common-place in pubs, supermarkets, and fridges up and down the country. We have Prosecco to thank for this!
So our mission statement is simple: Great sparkling wine, from England, for everyone.
FOUR people were sitting around a table one day talking about English sparkling wine… We all felt passionate about English wine but also felt it was difficult to find and very expensive. When we decided we would make great sparkling wine, from England, for everyone, we realised that some hard (impossible?) work lay ahead and we joked that we would need some help from 'up above', perhaps from an ANGEL...
In our first year looking for English wine grapes, we covered hundreds of miles, and met loads of lovely people with English vineyards big and small. Surprisingly, buying grapes in England isn't easy, but fortunately, in the end we met a great vineyard-owner who really understood our plans and we shook hands on a deal… We had our grapes!
We then worked with two great winemakers to carefully press our grapes, and ferment our base (still) wine, and then (the fun part)… our base wine goes in to tank with some yeast and the lids are closed. Because the C02 (bubbles) can't escape from the tank, they stay in the wine, and there you have it – sparkling wine!
Our sparkling wine is then bottled and labelled, we pay the government some money for making booze, and we go and sell the wine. At least that's the plan!? Cheers!
Made from 50% Reichensteiner 25% Madeleine Angevine 25% Seyval Blanc grape varieties. Secondary fermentation took place in early 2019 in Sussex, using the 'charmat‑method', which is the same method as used for Prosecco. This gives Angel & Four Brut a clean, fresh and fruity style.
Perfect as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to fish and chips!
