Tuscan aged dessert wine.

This amber coloured wine is made from Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes, grown in the Tuscan hills. The grapes are dried for three months so they have a higher sugar content. The wine is aged in barrels for 5 years to develop its rich and warm taste.

There are three explanations for the origin of the name Vin Santo: in 1349, the Greek Patriarch visiting Florence declared Vin Santo to be similar to the wine drunk on Xantos; others think the wine is called Santo (holy) because it was used for the celebration of the Mass; finally, the wine could be called Santo because it was produced in the first days of November (the Saints' days). Traditionally served in Tuscany after a meal, when honey and almond biscuits (cantucci) are dipped into it.

This is beautiful with desserts or traditionally used with cantucci biscuits for dipping.
