Adelina continue to plough their own furrow with more niche offerings from their little corner of Australia. This is a meaty, well hung gamey version of a Nebbiolo. With a brick red colour and intense charcuterie nose featuring strawberry compote notes, this is rich intense wine with great food pairing potential.

Adelina is a small winery and vineyard nestled in the Spring Farm Valley between the Aberfeldy and Wendouree vineyards, approximately 4km south/south east of the township of Clare. The small vineyard has an elevation of approximately 450 metres above sea level, originally established circa 1910 yields mainly Shiraz, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon, however there are also small plantings of Pinot Noir and Pedro Ximenes. The Gardner family have owned the Spring Farm Estate (the site of both the Adelina winery and vineyards) since 1986. Winemakers Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner (the team from Some Young Punks) hold Ph.D’s in oenology and see Adelina as a very different beast. The Adelina winemaking philosophy is simple: make wines which exhibit a sense of place, the definition of site, climate, and season, whilst utilising minimalist approaches.

From the Talc Hill vineyard, located at Gumeracha, also in the Adelaide Hills. It lies on a steep and rocky slope of grey, sandy loam over a clay base, with fractured quartz and ironstone, at an altitude of 400-420m. Fruit was hand-picked, destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeast. Maceration times varied from 19 to 51 days on skins. Post pressing the wine was racked to mature barrel for 13 months, for malo (indigenous bacteria) and maturation.

A superb match for a rich Ragout and other intensely flavoured Italian meat dishes.

"Vivid red. High-pitched redcurrant and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of dried rose, cinnamon and white pepper. Racy and precise but slow to open, offering tangy red fruit and floral pastille flavors and a strong jolt of peppery spices. Clean, dry and precise, with excellent finishing clarity and fine-grained tannins that come on late."
