Tiny parcel from AB&D's ' X Single Vineyard' project which champions specific growers and vineyard sites in South Australia, the generous sunshine of Langhorne Creek allows the early formation of flavours even in this late ripening variety meaning it can be picked nice and early to capture some freshness.
Rose petals, cranberries and red currants crushed in a handful of garden herbs on the nose. The palate is zesty and zippy. The tart berry flavours build into a slightly richer finish that carries the length of the fruit even after the wine is gone.
Handpicked with about a quarter crushed on the bottom, the remaining bunches were tipped on top and allowed to ferment naturally to create a carbonic element. Foot stomped then basket pressed to old barrels where it sat for 8 months. Handpicked to employ the technique of carbonic maceration through whole bunch fermentation which tempers the harsh characters and promotes the brighter ones, helped create a wine that's juicy yet retains a whiff of rustic charm. Matured for eight months in old oak before bottling helped to soften the edges and pull everything together for a complete, balanced wine. Aged for 6 months in old seasoned barriques.
Peri Peri chicken, grilled halloumi or spicy rice dishes.
