This wine is deep garnet with a purple red hue.

Aromas are initially quite closed, with a sense of intensity and concentration of blackberries and spicy, brambly fruits, but with time the aromatics release to express more lifted plum and glazed cherry while the scent of provincial herbs gives a hint of the complexity that will come with age.

This wine is defined by the silky tannins and rich texture that is typical of the east coast region. Black plum flesh with hints of red cherry add a juicy element to the texture and concentration and provide length to the palate.

Bicheno is a fishing village on the north east coast of Tasmania and this select parcel of fruit is sourced from a vineyard located five kilometres inland from the township. The climate at Bicheno is dominated by the sea with coastal winds from the east responsible for particularly heavy autumn rainfall. The proximity of the vineyard to the coast results in generally mild temperatures yet its inland
location surrounded by protection from low coastal hills results in drier weather with cooler nights. In 2012 the east coast experienced similar conditions to the rest of Tasmania, characterised by a mild spring followed by a warm and relatively dry summer and autumn.

Fifteen-year-old vines are carefully managed with cool climate viticultural techniques essential for producing extremely high quality Pinot Noir. This includes shoot positioning, removal of uneven and second set bunches at veraison and some leaf removal. Hand-harvesting ensured each clone was kept separate as the fruit was inspected and assessed and ne small parcel was deemed perfect for this wine and placed in a small open top fermenter. De-stemmed parcels filled another two small open top fermenters. Fermentation began three days later and finished after four days with daily plunging. After settling overnight, each fermenter was drained and pressed separately before the wine was filled into a selection of French oak barriques (30 per cent new) for 10 months.
