A breath of fresh air in a world of deep, dark, brooding red wine - think red cherries and raspberries on an elegantly weighted palate - you can drink this slightly chilled.

In a region that is so famously associated with different winemaking processes for its red wines, this Valpolicella Classico is a straight-up, honest Valpol that is designed to reflect the land and not the artistry that's possible in the winery - see Ripasso or Amarone for that! While the latter require months or years in barrels, this style is ready to drink while young, emphasising its strengths - lightness, freshness and vibrancy. Fresh cherries galore!

Concern for the future was what drove Gabriele and Miriam Dalcanele towards organic certification in 2006.

Preserving the nature and health of their working environment has always been the driving philosophy for this husband and wife team. This responsibility of guardianship has led Gabriele to closely manage every step of his winemaking process, from the vines to the end bottle. He is adamant that there is nothing more critical to making the clean, modern style of Valpolicella for which they are known, than the health of their vines.

This subregion of Veneto is, in the context of Italy, rather cool in climate. But while the area is undeniably beautiful, the growers experience their fair share of difficulties, from strong winds to steep, narrow valleys. And La Dama are no exception, having experienced severe floods in the past. Yet despite the challenges nature has thrown their way, La Dama are determined to work as naturally as possible. For them, the best wines come from the best raw materials, and we're inclined to agree!

"My name is Gabriele Dalcanale and my passion for grapevines and wines started while attending the college of agricultural studies in my hometown Trento. It continued at University of Padova, where I specialized in oenology and, later, after my graduation, during a year as a researcher at the same institute. After university, I spent a few years working for the well-known Cantine Ferrari in Trento and, later, for Cantine Lenotti, a major winery in the area of Bardolino, near Lake Garda. It was in 2006 that my wife and I began to work on setting up our own business in Valpolicella. With the support of my father in law Giampietro, who immediately believed in our project, we bought the land and built a new modern winery, La Dama. Since then we never looked back, putting all our passion and dedication into what we do, from cultivating our vineyard and working in the cellar, to promoting and selling our products."
