This 2010 has an intense, concentrated aroma with dark berried fruit (plums, blackberries and blueberries) which mingle elegantly with the tertiary aromas from the oak ageing, bringing out balsamic notes of liquorice and eucalyptus, a fine base of caramel and toffee, and a spicy, mineral finish which gives the wine great aromatic complexity. On the palate, it is supple and oily, with good backbone, in which the taste sensations appear at all times with great finesse and elegance. It has a very pleasant finish, long and lingering with a balsamic, spicy, mineral sensation that seems to go on and on.

This wine has been made using tempranillo and graciano grapes from an old vineyard cultivated inside the Finca de Torrea estate it is a “village wine” from  Elciego, where the Marqués de Riscal City of Wine is located.

Finca Torrea is a modern-style wine with a very up-to-date profile, more fruit and less herby in character and aged for a shorter time both in the cask and in the bottle. It is a different style to the wines that Marqués de Riscal have traditionally made, not only due to its modern character, but also for the image of its label showing the map of the vineyard plots of the Finca de Torrea, inspired by the line of design marked by the architect Frank O.Gehry with the Hotel Marqués de Riscal.

It is an elegant, fresh wine, easy to drink yet with a certain air of gravity, which really shows the quality of our Elciego vineyards.

Spanish estate Marques de Riscal is one of the oldest Rioja wineries and was founded in 1858 in Elciego by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga. From the very beginning, it has been at the international vanguard of Spanish wine production.

Marques de Riscal is known for being an innovate, pioneering cellar and seeks to make wines that are original, fresh and easy to drink. Marqués de Riscal has access to approximately 1500 hectares of vineyards spread between Elciego and the neighbouring villages of Leza, Laguardia and Villabuena; 500 hectares of their own vineyards and the remainder grown under control of the cellar. This sub-zone of the Rioja Alavesa has traditionally been best known for producing wines with good ageing potential, thanks in part to the high acidity and good tannin structure of the musts obtained.

Since 1972, Riscal has also pioneered the wine region of Rueda in order to produce high-quality white wines primarily from the indigenous Verdejo grape. Since 2018 the vineyards of Marqués de Riscal in Rueda have been certified as organic.

The iconic status of this innovative Rioja cellar was enhanced further in 2006 with the opening of the “City of Wine” a stunning new state-of-the-art winery and hotel designed by Franc Gehry.

This wine pairs well with all kinds of meat dishes: roasts, grills, stewed with mushrooms, in spicy sauces… It is a perfect match for free-range chicken and poularde casserole. It can also accompany fish dishes if they have sauces with strong flavours and aromas, such as sea bream or cod with tomato and red peppers. It is also ideal with red tuna fish.
