Brimming with red and black fruits, underpinned by spice and mocha and the tannins smoothed out by careful oak aging, this is powerful, rich and supple with a savoury and very characterful finish.
Sourced from vineyards on terraced escarpments (Les Banquettes Escarpées) on the same ridge as Cairanne in the southern Rhône, these south-facing slopes gained their own AC in 2010. The Syrah is from younger vines and adds freshness and elegance to the dark, spicy Grenache.
Aged for 24 months in French oak barrels.
Will be perfect with slow roasted lamb shank, marinated venison casserole, pasta with wild boar ragu.
2012 Vintage: "The terraced escarpments (or "banquettes escarpées") of Rasteau in the southern Rhône were given their own AOC in 2010, making it the newest AOC in the region - deserved recognition for the distinctively dark, rugged but fresh red wines produced in the area. In the view of the Top 100 judges, Boutinot's example, a typical Rasteau blend of Grenache with a portion of Syrah, is the perfect introduction to the style: a complex, chewy red with "white pepper, liquorice, plums, brambles, earthy notes, structure, nicely integrated oak: a wonderful warming autumnal wine"."
