A fresh and youthful wine. Strawberry and raspberry fruit aromas, with just a hint of oak. The flavors are soft and flavorful with an appealing tang on the finish. This wine is reminiscent of old time Zinfandel, where the fruit is prominent and the wine’s character is very honest with great drinkability. Not serious or complicated, and with none of the heavy influence of oak or overzealous cellaring, it is a great sipping wine.
Renwood winery is situated in picturesque Amador County, northern California, which has a long history of producing superb Zinfandel, ever since the first gold-hungry fortune seekers started flocking to the area in 1848.
Under the direction of renowned winemaker Joe Shebl, the winery has increased its focus on producing exceptional Amador County Zinfandel by purchasing 3,000 new French and American oak barrels for barrel-fermentation, as well as investing significantly in state-of-the-art winemaking technology, including automated punch-down fermenters.
Joe explains that “Zinfandel can be delicate and graceful, or a big monster of a wine”, but he tries to “balance those two with finesse and fresh vibrant fruit”. The resulting wines are acclaimed for their opulence, powerful fruit and silky-smooth mouthfeel.
