A big structured wine with lashings of oak and full, concentrated fruit character. A classy wine with a fine structure, and a long finish.

Established in 1971, Rockford's vintage shed is equipped with machinery that is from 50 to 100 years old and was discarded by other wineries as modernisation took over. This allows Rockford to carry on old winemaking traditions and craft wines that capture and reflect the vineyard's characteristics in a timeless fashion.

At Rockford we're committed to keeping the best of the traditional wine trade alive and sharing this with our customers.

One of the Barossa’s great strengths is the diversity, consistency and quality of the grapes delivered annually by its small independent vignerons. Their knowledge, tenacity and commitment to the land have ensured the Barossa’s viticultural prosperity.

Moppa Springs, Ebenezer and Kalimna are some of the driest areas in the Barossa, where green vines grow on one side of the fence and ripened wheat on the other. This hard country is cold, wet and frosty during pruning - then hot, dry and dusty during harvest: the kind of tough conditions that ensure Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz give their best. These varieties and the families who grow them earned the right to represent the Barossa in this traditional blend by surviving for more than 150 years when others could not.

Like all Rockford reds, the hand-picked grapes for this wine are de-stemmed through our 1880’s Bagshaw crusher, open fermented and then gently basket pressed. All components are aged separately in an array of seasoned American and French oak hogsheads and large vats to allow the tannins to soften and colours and flavours to consolidate.

2013 Vintage
A dry start to the growing season meant the vines set a light crop after flowering. Vines have an in-built barometer that reads the prevailing vintage conditions and balances crop levels accordingly. The low yields have provided concentrated, quality red wines with great varietal definition.
