Named after the brightest star in the Eagle constellation, this is a stellar Chilean red.

Intense garnet, ruby in colour with bold cassis and blackcurrant fruit aromas. Aromas evolve to exhibit linseed, wood smoke and vanilla pods. It’s a full-bodied wine with well integrated and firm tannins. A stylish and sophisticated wine with good structure and length. Very more-ish, it drinks well now and will develop nicely over the next 5 years.

With a dazzling level of investment and a pioneering spirit applied to both viticulture and winemaking, Altair has taken the challenge to produce some of the world’s best Cabernet seriously. Located at the very top of the Totihue Valley in the foothills of the Andes, Altair’s impressive architecture is a sure statement of intent but it has been more than matched by the quality of the initial releases. Winemaker Ana Maria Cumsille crafts exquisite wines from this steep, naturally low-yielding, deep gravelly site. The flagship Altair is immense and profound, built for the long haul. The style of sister wine Sideral is a little more approachable, but in its own right is still considered one of Chile’s finest wines. These are handmade, artisanal wines, pure expressions of the unique Alto Cachapoal terroir.

Sideral is the "Chilean red blend" of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Syrah (20%), Carmenere (6%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (4%). In the words of the winery, "We lead the resurgence of the innovative red blends in Chile by incorporating Carmenere with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It's a unique wine that we want to drink". The wine was fermented at 28-30 degrees C, followed by post-fermentation maceration to fix the colour. The juice was then pressed directly into barrel where malolactic fermentation takes place. Each parcel is fermented and kept separate, whilst aged in 100% French oak barrels (20% new, 40% 1 year and 40% 2 year) for 12 months. The final blend is then created prior to bottling.

Recommended with roast meat, pasta and wild boar ragu or try with simple grilled steak.
