Named in recognition of the late Garry Glazebrook, a prominent figure in the Hawke’s Bay winemaking and viticulture industry for more than 30 years. Garry enjoyed visiting Sileni Estates regularly when it opened in the late 1990’s and often included advice to Chief Winemaker, Grant Edmonds, to consider planting the Spanish grape variety Albarino (due to the similar climate, disease pressures and the research he had conducted, he was adamant it would do well). For many years the recommendations were left on the back burner, however eventually Garry’s advice won out... so when it came to naming the first vintage, he immediately came to mind as the ‘Advocate’ for Albarino.
The Advocate Albarino is grown in the Bridge Pa Triangel, sub-region of Hawkes Bay. Warm temperatures and free draining silt over red metal gravels provide perfect growing conditions. Grapes for this wine were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed before the clarified juice underwent a cool fermentation in a stainless steel tank. Post fermentation, the wine was kept on yeast lees with periodic stirring to introduce complexity and texture.
Intense aromatics with layers of peach, nectarine and citrus fruit, combined with a hint of spice. Elegantly structured, with a finely balanced acidity leading to a long finish.
Enjoy with Mediterranean style salads, seafood, or pair with semi-soft creamy cheese.
