Classic aromas of gamey Pinot with a core of really quite ripe, fresh red fruits that lends a perfume and prettiness to the nose. Great concentration and vibrant bramble fruit which sits harmoniously with beautifully structured, fine tannins on the palate. Delicious modern Burgundy.
Santenay is the most southerly appellation of the Côtes de Beaune. In the ‘Prarons Dessous’ climat on clay/silt soils lies a 2ha parcel of 50 year old Pinot Noir vines, from which this lovely Santenay Rouge is produced. Hand harvested to allow immediate sorting, and fully destemmed, fermentation is in tank before the wine is matured in oak barrels (15% of which are new) for 13 months.
The vines on this 13-hectare estate are grown sustainably, with very limited use of phytosanitary chemicals and preferring tillage to herbicides. Harvest is done by hand, directly into small drilled boxes, avoiding the maceration of grapes before winemaking and limiting the amount of handling and crushing.
Grilled lamb chops and light game dishes or try it lightly chilled as an apéritif.
