Domaine Faiveley Nuits Saint Georges Les Montroziers reveals spicy, fruity and woody notes as soon as you approach the glass. The attack is round and the texture of this wine is silky. A charming cuvée, which represents well the Nuits Saint Georges appellation.
Les Montroziers is named after the ancestors of the Faiveley family, who were important industrialists and men during the 20th century.
This Burgundian domaine has been a family estate for nearly 200 years. Erwan Faiveley, 7th generation, took the reins in 2006 from his father when he was only 25. They have earned their reputation as one of Burgundy’s finest and most trusted, with an unparalleled selection from the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise totalling over 120 hectares.
Vines have been cultivated here for over 1,000 years. The history of the village is therefore intrinsically linked to that of its famous vineyards. At the end of the seventeenth century, Louis XIV, who suffered from digestive problems, was advised by his doctor to drink a glass of wine from Nuits everyday. In 1892, the village of Nuits added the name of its best plot ‘Saint-Georges’ to its name.
This cuvée is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (20% new barrels). These barrels have been carefully selected because their toasting is moderate and the grain is fine, which will only bring a slight woody character to the final wine. After this maturation phase, the wines spend about 2 months in vats.
This Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Montroziers is best served with quail with grapes, wild boar stew or roast pheasant. Serve between 14 and 16°C.
