With an intense red colour and glints of violet. The nose shows aromas of red fruit and spices that are accompanied by a delicate note of pink pepper. On the palate there are notes of blue fruits followed by smooth, rounded tannins that are nicely integrated, and lead to a balanced, elegant, and fresh finish.

Fruit from the El Olivar vineyward, near the town of Peralillo in the Colchagua Valley. The vineyard has an average age of 18 years. Soil is Piedmont of geological origin with a 5–14% slope. The soil presents very good porosity and drainage with a very well structured first horizon of clay and gravel over a second horizon that presents fragmented alterite with abundant fine root development.

The vineyards are planted to a density of 5,000 plants/hectare, and the vines are trained to low vertical shoot position and cane and spur pruned. Shoots are selected in the spring, and leaves are pulled manually in early March to ensure good ventilation for the grapes.

The grapes were harvested by hand during the last week of April. The grapes were destemmed and crushed into a stainless steel tank, where they underwent a 3-day pre-fermentation cold maceration at 10ºC to achieve greater extraction of colour and aromas. Alcoholic fermentation took place with selected yeasts at 26–28ºC with 4 short daily pump-overs to extract only the most elegant tannins and obtain a fruitier and friendlier wine. Malolactic fermentation later occurred naturally in tanks and oak barrels. 23% of the wine aged for 11 months in French oak barrels and the remaining 77% remained in stainless steel and concrete tanks for greater fruitiness and freshness in the final blend

85% Carménère ... so what's the 15% secret in the blend?

Viu Manent is a Chilean winery owned by the Viu family. It was founded in 1935 when the Catalonian immigrant Miguel Viu-García and his two sons Agustín and Miguel Viu-Manent founded Bodegas Viu in Santiago de Chile.

Viu Manent wines are made with grapes from their own properties in the Colchagua Valley in Chile’s Central Zone, 130 km (80 mi) southeast of the capital, Santiago. The winery’s 254 hectares (627 acres) are divided among vineyards in San Carlos, La Capilla, and El Olivar.

Secret is a line of modern and fresh style wines. Each Secret wine, while expressing the characteristics of its main variety, always keeps the mystery of its blend, which is carefully hidden by the winemaker and corresponds to up to 15% of the wine. The secret of our blend remains hidden and more relevant than ever.
