La Grande Année is an intense, rich, and complex wine with majestic density, each vintage bringing its own unique signature. Its incomparable texture and depth of aromas make it the ideal partner for fine dining.
Produced only when a harvest achieves perfect balance, this cuvée embodies the artistry mastered by the men and women of the House, enhancing an exceptional vintage. The 2018 vintage is characterized by its elegance and finesse, with a rich bouquet of ripe fruit and floral notes, followed by a long, smooth finish.
La Grande Année 2018 is a blend of 19 crus, mainly from Verzenay, Aÿ, and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ for the 66% Pinot Noir, and Chouilly and Cuis for the 34% Chardonnay.
Fermentation takes place entirely in oak barrels and maturation occurs under cork, with aging in the cellar lasting more than twice as long as required by the appellation rules. The dosage is moderate at 6 grams per litre. During these exceptional years, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, sourced exclusively from Champagne's Grands and Premiers Crus, are vinified entirely in oak. The best barrels are then selected, blended, and bottled to begin a slow aging process on lees in the House's cellars. The bottles of La Grande Année are finally riddled and disgorged by hand, revealing a rare complexity and harmony.
A golden yellow colour, reflecting the wine's maturity, but also Bollinger's winemaking methods. The initial nose bursts with fresh citrus and Granny Smith apple, enhanced by notes of orchard fruits: white peach, apricot, and mirabelle plum. When aerated, fresh almond comes through amid aromas of breadcrumbs and acacia honey. This aromatic harmony is organized around a beautiful central theme, where citrus and mineral notes mingle with a delicate touch of white peony. A structured and balanced palate, revealing notes of stewed fruit and quince. The texture gradually mellows, offering a creamy effervescence.
La Grande Année 2018 is a true gastronomic champagne. To bring out its unique style and aromas, we recommend serving this wine between 10 and 12°C. You can enjoy La Grande Année 2018 now, or choose to let it age in your cellar.
