This single vineyard Gavi has an enticing nose of white peach and acacia blossoms with just a hint of crystallised ginger. Fresh and light zesty citrus notes on the palate lift a textured well-rounded mouthfeel.
An enticing nose of white peach and pear with hints of fresh lime and gooseberry. Fresh and zesty citrus notes and ripe peachy characters are balanced by crisp acidity and mineral notes leading to a textured complex finish.
Araldica's La Battistina estate consists of 25 hectares of south facing vineyards, including 5 hectares of 'Gavi del Comune di Gavi', on a unique combination of limestone and clay. This isolated bubble of chalky, mineral soil allows full ripening of the local Cortese grape. Vines average 35 years old, giving complexity and weight to what is becoming one of Italy's most fashionable white wines. The estate is divided into distinct areas producing very different wines. The majority of grapes go to produce the unoaked 'La Battistina', while 'Nuovo Quadro' comes from a small, plot at the foot of the Battistina hill which lies within the Gavi sub-zone.
This wine comes from a recently planted vineyard, Nuovo Quadro, on Araldica's La Battistina estate in the Gavi di Gavi region. The soil type is chalky mineral. The Cortese grapes were hand-harvested in mid-September.
The whole process of winemaking is undertaken at Araldica's winery Azienda Agricola La Battistina, which has a storage capacity of 3,000 hectolitres in stainless steel tanks. The freshly picked grapes are gently crushed and subjected to a temperature controlled fermentation in small volume stainless steel tanks. The wine remains in contact with the lees for 3-4 months before being fined, filtered and bottled.
Serve chilled as an aperitif or with seafood and fish dishes.
Won Silver at Sommelier Wine Awards and IWSC awards and placed in The Wine Merchants Top 100 wines for 2017.
