Fruity Merlots with a pleasant structure and silky tannins. Cabernet Sauvignons are a little lively, but their sufficient maturity allowed us to avoid notes plants. The Petits Verdots were harvested “in a healthy state”, i.e. before complete maturity.
2013 will remain a very difficult year throughout the growing cycle with a very cool spring. and rainy. Abundant rainfall over the first 6 months even if March and April are slightly deficits. July was hot and dry with maximum temperatures above 30°C for 22 days! The month of September was characterized by normal but continuous precipitation, and with fairly high temperatures and nights between 18 and 20°C. Humidity, associated with these high temperatures, proved the arrival of botrytis. Vigilance and speed of intervention were the essential keys to the good harvest management in 2013!
The significant spring rainfall induced exceptional mildew pressure and this was a factor to be taken very seriously as with botrytis. With our teams, we stripped the leaves by hand significantly the later CS so that they gain maturity and are less exposed to disease pressure. However, despite our efforts, on our early soils, the rains quickly get the better of the health status because, very quickly, the grape berries tend to burst
We started the harvest on Monday September 30 and finished it the week after October 7. Surface area in production: 94 ha. Botrytis was on the starting blocks and we had to be very reactive in order to produce a harvest with little alteration. The characteristics of this vintage are fruity notes without be of an important structure. A little reminder of 2008?
