The result of painstaking fermentation and careful barrel-ageing over 12 months, this 2012 is a sustained ruby red with deep purple tints heralding in a rich palate. Profound, expressive bouquet of ripe Merlot redolent of red fruit, blackcurrant and bramble fruit and red berries. Great presence on the palate, which is complex and multilayered. Ripe grapes, fine oak, distinguished, elegant tannins. Dominated by the Merlot Noir, this cuvee lends full expression to the complexity and elegance of its terroir. A wine with character.
The Vignobles Cheminade estate situated at the heart of the prestigious Saint Emilion appellation in Saint Pey d'Armens has been striving to produce authentic, quality wines for more than four generations. Every effort is made in the vineyard to obtain grapes of excellent quality. A passionate viticulturist, Olivier Cheminade combines modern technology with ancient know-how while respecting the land – his motto is careful control to ensure greater quality at both the growing and winemaking stage.
The vines and the grapes are continuously monitored during the growing cycle prior to harvesting. The grapes are picked between late September and early October parcel by parcel as they reach optimum ripeness, sorted successively then placed in temperature-controlled vats for fermentation (alcoholic and Malolactic fermentation). The wine is then transferred to oak barrels (50% new) for 12 months to complete elevage before blending and bottling the following spring.
