A Chardonnay, made with particularly ripe grapes from Crouch Valley in Essex. Golden in colour, the Chardonnay is likely to develop in the bottle for several years but is perfectly drinkable now. Fermented in three-year old French oak, it has notes of wild flowers, tangerine, citrus, stone fruits and honey.

Freedom of the Press is an “urban winery” with a twist: it sits on a hillside in the Cotswolds. The original idea of Gavin Carver was a vineyard-free, city-based winery in Oxford—buying top fruit from around the country and operating more like a microbrewery or boutique distillery than a traditional estate. By early spring 2020 they’d even secured a site—then COVID hit, derailing the plan. Just as the project seemed doomed, a new home appeared: a unit on a picturesque farm above Minster Lovell, 15 miles from Oxford.
