Gilbert Pet Nat Rosé is a delicious, cloudy pet-nat sparkling made from Sangiovese grown in Mudgee, New South Wales. Vibrant pink, frothy rhubarb, watermelon and wild red berry notes. Dry, tangy and refreshing.

Fifth-generation winemaker, Simon, founded the business in 2004, a century and a half after his great-great-grandfather, Joseph Gilbert of Pewsey Vale Estate, established Eden Valley’s first cool-climate vineyard and planted its first Riesling in 1847. He received numerous Colonial and International Awards for excellence. The Pewsey Vale Vineyard and Winery was handed down over generations until the site was sold in 1923.

Simon and his son Will combine their passion and innovative spirit as they follow in the footsteps of their ancestors. Artisans of cool climate wines, together they produce elegant, pure and structured wines reflective of variety, site and season. The family legacy lives on through our Gilbert + Gilbert collection, which reflects the same fragrant, delicate, and pure characteristics of Eden Valley’s first wines in the 1850s.

Mudgee is 520 - 570 metres above sea level and produces grapes that are more savoury and structured in style. This is due to the warmer climate, where the mean January temperature is 23.5°C, and the average rainfall is 600mm per annum. The soil in Mudgee is predominately clay loam, which is deep and well drained with underlying shattered rock and quartz.

The grapes were harvested earlier than normal to maintain the bright fresh varietal characteristics. They were destemmed, must chilled and pressed, after which the settled juice was racked, and fermentation initiated. Fermentation was then monitored and temperature maintained between 13 - 16°C to allow for a steady ferment. Once the baumé level had dropped more than 2/3 of its value, the residual sugar was then regularly measured as we were aiming to hand bottle and cap at 12.5 grams/litre of residual sugar. The wine then lay down for fermentation before being released in 2023.

It is up to you how you would like to drink it; some like it cloudy, some like it clear. Either softly roll or not - before opening with care!
