Classic southern Rhône blend. Unfiltered. Loads of fruit with classic Shiraz peppery spice, licorice and earthy background. Rich, strong and long finish.

Established in 1570, the Chateau de Saint Cosme is beautiful winery located towards the north of the oldest wine region of France, Gigondas. This is a family-run vineyard and currently, the 14th generation of the Barroul family runs this historic winery and the ancient estate surrounding it.  The quality of grapes produced at Saint Cosme is unique, because the geographical location, climate and the soil quality of this region are very rare.

Located between two geological faults, the terroirs in this locality are very complicated and apt for producing exquisite quality of grapes. Currently, the fruits are cultivated on three uniquely-different and fertile terroirs at Saint Cosme. They are Le Poste, Le Claux and Hominis Fides. The history of the Le Poste vineyard dates back to as early as the 14th century.  The Le Claux and Hominis Fides started functioning from 1902 onwards.

The Le Poste terroir was marked as one of the best soils around half a century ago, because of its unique limestone and sand combination.  The Le Claux terroir is made of limestone clay and small gravels while the Hominis Fides has very high limestone content in it.

Currently, Saint Come has over 15 old vines and their average age is 60 years. Though only Gigondas wines were created here for a long time, it was during 1997 that a new variety of vigneron was added to the Barroul family’s portfolio. This came to be known as the Negociant Vigneron.

The wines created here have a strong flavour and character because the grapes are not destemmed during the winemaking process. Cluster fermentation is done in historical Gallo-Roman vats, which ensure that the flavour of the fruits is retained completely while making wines.

Château de Rouanne, a historic medieval castle and estate located in the southern Rhône Valley, boasts a rich history dating back to the 12th century. The name 'Rouanne' originates from 'Rugius', the supposed Roman owner of this classified ancient site. Covering a total of 177 acres, of which 153 are vineyards, this estate was acquired by Louis Barruol, the owner and winemaker of Château de Saint Cosme, in May 2019. Barruol has long seen the potential in Château de Rouanne, having previously working with the owner as a source for his negociant wines.

The vineyard is divided into 42 hectares in the Vinsobres appellation, 14 in the Côtes du Rhône, and 8 in the IGP Méditerranée “Comté de Grignan”. The latter's limestone soils are perfect for crafting a brut nature, a dry sparkling wine traditionally produced in this region. Barruol praises the estate's red clay soils for their ability to add texture and complexity to the wines.

Having long admired the estate, Barruol jumped at the opportunity to purchase it when the previous owners put it up for sale. His vision for Château de Rouanne involves harnessing the unique terroir of Cru Vinsobres, known for its excellent geology and cool climate, to produce exceptional wines. He likens the estate to a "sleeping beauty" waiting for a vigneron to truly love it, much like Saint Cosme when he took it over in 1992. The estate has been certified organic since 2022.

"When I took over Saint Cosme, in 1992, I had to wait until my fourth year (1995) to experience the joy of a great vintage. I was rather unfortunate because it isn’t often you get four challenging vintages in a row (from 1991 to 1994). At Rouanne, I was lucky enough to experience a great vintage in just my second year – 2019. The magnificent Rouanne hillside fully demonstrated its boundless potential, akin to a race horse whose energy needs to be channelled. After a wonderful spring and flowering season that produced small berries, the dry summer helped express its intensity – a feature which all great vintages have in common. The incredible salinity, which is Rouanne’s hallmark characteristic, instils that vital freshness in an absolutely magnificent whole. The depth of the fruit, the length and the complexity make this a consummate age-worthy wine. There is no doubting its extensive scope, great structure and huge potential. Rouanne is right there up in the big league and we will be talking about the low-cropping 2019s for many years to come. I am gradually unravelling the mysteries of this terroir, but it has to be said that greater understanding brings with it as many new questions. Crucially, though, my intimate connection with this site grows daily. Cinnamon, liquorice, black pepper, gingerbread and salinity. Bottled unfiltered." - Louis Barruol
