Barrel-fermented Bobal from high altitude vineyards near Valencia.
An open, warm and spicy, nose with blackberry, raspberry and plum notes. The palate has lots of sour cherry, strawberry and creamy oak characters. A generous and appealing wine with supple tannins for structure - all balanced by juicy acidity and spice.
The 67 hectare Finca Fuenteseca estate lies in Utiel Requena, a high, rugged plateau, nearly 1,000 metres above sea level just inland from Valencia. The combination of hot, dry summers, cold nights and poor, limestone soil make the area relatively free of vine diseases and so ideal for organic farming. The entire estate is now dedicated to organic production and producing blends combining indigenous and international varieties.
Produced from the oldest, low-yielding Bobal vines on the Fuenteseca estate. Bobal is grown in loam plaines that are rich in red lcay and miocence conglomerates. It ripens later than other varieties with young vines often used to make light fruity reds, and older vines used to produce more structured, alcoholic wines that can be aged to result in a more complex style. Fruit yields are controlled in order to keep the natural ecosystem of the environment and organic practices are also employed, harsh chemicals avoided.
The wine was fermented in barrel before undergoing malolactic fermentation and six months ageing in French barriques.
Full-flavoured beef or lamb dishes, or with hard cheeses and charcuterie.
