A bottle of Tommasi Valpolicella Ripasso in a wooden gift box.
Deep, bright ruby red in colour. This wine has a generous and intensely spicy bouquet with aromas of cherry jam, tobacco and black pepper. It is opulent with silky tannins, with the bright fruit and spice coming through during its long finish.
Founded by Giacomo Tommasi in 1902, Tommasi has grown to be the largest family-owned vineyard estate in the Valpolicella Classica, owning 105 hectares and an additional 15 hectares in the Lugana DOC. Tommasi is located in Pedemonte in the heart of the historic ‘Classico’ region, from which the best quality wines are produced. The estate is owned and managed by the fourth generation of the Tommasi family, with six family members working together in harmony. Pierangelo manages the UK market, while winemaker, Giancarlo prefers to stay close the vineyards and winery.
We were so proud of our first “Ripasso” made with a selection of our best grapes, that we became the first family to flaunt the name on a label. The Ripasso technique is grounded in peasant traditions that vary from family to family, but it is still a relative newcomer among Valpolicella wines. Nevertheless, it already ranks as one of our most popular and well-known classics. The second fermentation of our best Valpolicella Classico wine on the Amarone skins, creates an intriguing depth and aromatic complexity. Amarone lovers will find this reminiscent of their favorite wine, with the price and lower alcohol that makes it a perfect everyday alternative.
The selected grapes are placed onto traditional Arele and then left to rest for minimum 110 days in a large dedicated open room, where a ventilation system mantains an elevated and constant air flow. During this period the grapes are constantly checked since we want to keep them perfectly healthy, without any mildew.
The presence of skeleton implies the presence of active limestone which perfects the quality of the wines. That is why this vineyard can be defined as one of the company’s most prestigious. The presence of limestone is essential to enrich the perfumed component of the wines, the finesse and elegance with an exaltation of cleanliness and fragrance in the floral sensations. All characteristics that then improve the value of the structure and complexity of the aromas and perfumes. They are the best soils from which long-lived wines are obtained and destined to improve decisively with aging in the bottle like our amarone.
Serve with pasta with meat sauces, boiled and braised meats. Perfect with grilled meats and BBQ.
