Gnarly Head Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel presents a bold, sophisticated taste profile. This Californian wine, made from old vine Zinfandel grapes, encapsulates lush, rich flavours of blackberry, cherry, and mocha. The wine boasts bold tannins, an enigmatic dark berry aroma and an intoxicatingly deep purple hue. A handsomely robust explosion of spice upon first sip mellows into a smooth, lingering finish. This Zinfandel pairs elegantly with hearty meat dishes and strong cheeses, earning it an esteemed place amongst other premium wines. Masculine and daring, the Gnarly Head Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel is an adventurous choice for the discerning oenophile.
Vine Zinfandel old knotty head is made from grapes from knotty strains 35-80 years old. As some of the oldest wineries in California, the fruit produced is exceptional, intense and full flavour. Zinfandel vines planted in these older vineyards are among the oldest in California and grown independently in the traditional "head-trained". These gnarled vines provide the inspiration for Gnarly Head, as the wines that create these older vines are bold, full-bodied, juicy and, in other words, gnarled. Old Zinfandel Vines date back to the early 1900s when Italian immigrants settled on the west side of Lodi and planted Zinfandel. The best vineyards are still owned and managed by these families, some going on their fourth generation as farmers. Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin is sourced from these family-owned and managed vineyards with long term contracts; many that began with a handshake years ago.
