This is lovely in what appears to be an outstanding vintage for Faiveley’s Chardonnays. Les Champgains is on the Truffières side of the vineyard (higher up so lots of daily sun and cooler evenings), thus more minerality rather than dense rich fruit. Immediately appealing, intense aromatics of lime and pear, versatile and fleshy. Very fine and harmonious. It promises to be stunning in the years to come.
Lying above Les Folatières and facing south-east, our 1.05-hectare parcel of light, stony, filtering soil is ‘the Meursault of Puligny’. Our vines produce a Puligny full and depth with lots of character and structure, despite the early-ripening area.
With a history dating back to 1825, Domaine Faiveley has established itself as a beacon of excellence in winemaking and has contributed significantly to the legacy of Burgundy wines. Domaine Faiveley is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges but it owns vineyards in some of the most esteemed appellations in Burgundy, including Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Pommard, and Mercurey.
Faiveley is one of Burgundy’s largest vineyard owners with 125 hectares of vineyards. These 125 hectares are composed of grand crus and premiers crus locations. It places great emphasis on sustainable practices with a deep respect for the environment and the land, so biodynamic techniques are used for the farming of the vines. Fermentation is carried out in new wooden vats for the finer wines and stainless steel tanks for the lesser cuvées.
Due to its extensive vineyard ownership, the domain produces more than 400,000 bottles annually, thus it’s one of Burgundy’s largest wine producers. Its Musigny remains the most iconic bottle of the domain, which easily commands more than £3000 for the best vintages.
