A perfumed nose with fresh aromas of strawberry and cherry, accompanied by an elegant note of pink peppercorn and a touch of floral notes. On the palate, it’s fresh and lively with smooth tannins and concentrated ripe strawberries and cherries. The finish is long, elegant, with a saline–mineral sensation.

Grapes were harvested by hand. After destemming, the grapes underwent a cool maceration (8ºC), some of the wine with the stems (25%), in small stainless steel tanks (50%), and concrete eggs (50%), for a period of 3 days. Alcoholic fermentation lasted 10–12 days, with native yeasts at temperatures of 22–25ºC. Malolactic fermentation occurred in 100% of the wine in concrete eggs, where the wine also remained in contact with its fine lees, for the purpose of increasing the perception of volume on the palate. 100% of the blend aged in concrete eggs for 8 months.

Viu Manent was founded in 1935 by Catalan immigrant Miguel Viu Garcia and his sons Agustin and Miguel Viu Manent. They are one of the longest established producers in the region. Initially the family focused on a negociant wine business however, in 1966 they fulfilled a long held ambition and bought the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco and the vineyards in the Colchagua Valley from which they had long sourced their wines. The estate included 150 hectares of noble, pre-phylloxera vines. Today their passion for their family heritage and stewardship of the land drives them to produce wines with character that express their origin and individual growing season. Their vineyards are all located in the renowned Colchagua Valley and cover 260 hectares over 3 locations: San Carlos, La Capilla and El Olivar. They also source grapes from selected Casablanca vineyards for some of their white wines. Viu Manent craft wines from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier for whites and Malbec, Syrah, Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for reds. They are highly respected and particuarly known for the high quality of their Malbecs. Operating internationally their wines have been recognised in many major international wine competitions. In 2010 they were named the most awarded Chilean winery in a survey of gold medals and trophies awarded in major international competitions by Vitis magazine.
