This 2018 Pinot Gris delivers delicate aromas of pear, and nectarine which flow through to subtle bush honey and citrus notes on the palate. A textural and elegantly structural quality provide length to the finish.
Ara wines are produced from grapes grown on one single-vineyard estate in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, the only wine producer of significant size to do so in the region.
Adopting a fully sustainable approach to both growing and winemaking, Ara belongs to Sustainable Winegrowing NZ and is passionate about preserving the surrounding environment. In 2004 they joined the Department of Conservation’s falcon recovery programme by introducing a breeding pair of rare native falcons to a secluded corner of the vineyard. Over the last few years, members of the Ara team have planted cuttings of native plants around the vineyard blocks, which aside from their beauty, have lured native birds such as the ‘tui’ and ‘wax-eye’ back to Marlborough.
Sourced from across our Estate in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, Ara Single Estate are intensely flavoured wines that amplify the remarkable valley story. These consistent, flavoursome wines tell the tale of making Ara wines on the edge of the world.
Grapes were harvested with a range of maturity to contribute a broad flavour spectrum. Following harvest the wine was cold settled then clear racked.
Juice was fermented at moderate temperatures (14 -16°C) using a combination of yeast. These conditions ensured distinct varietal definition and a fuller bodied, textural palate. Fermentation was stopped when balance was achieved. Following a short time on full lees the wine was racked to blend, fined and stabilised before filtration to prepare for bottling.
Perfect with Asian fusion dishes, and grilled seasonal seafood.
