Castello Fonterutoli Chianti Classico 2019
A well proportioned wine with an elegant body. Notes of dark berry, fresh spice flavours, with an intense and smooth finish.

Castello Fonterutoli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2018
A remarkable combination of concentration and elegance, this wine displays ripe red berry fruit, blackberry, blackcurrant, mocha, morello cherry and a touch of liquorice alongside a muscular structure, fine tannins, balanced with pleasant acidity and a very long finish.

About Castello di Fonterutoli
The history of the Mazzei family is closely linked not just to the history of winemaking in Tuscany, but to the political and cultural history of the entire region. The first documents that name the Mazzei family – originally from the winemaking area of Carmignano – date back to the early eleventh century.

Today, after almost six centuries, the family, under the guidance of Lapo, who oversees the property with the help of his sons, Filippo and Francesco, and Filippo’s son, Giovanni still devotes itself to winemaking, with an ongoing commitment to innovation and improvement while respecting tradition, family values and the natural environment.

Fonterutoli is located 5 km south of Castellina in Chianti (Siena), on the hills facing the Val d’Elsa, in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Owned by the Mazzei family since 1435, it still retains its original form, that of a tranquil country village: a cluster of houses, the church of San Miniato and the villa, built at the end of the 1500s where the medieval castle once stood. Today, the estate comprises 117 hectares of vineyard, largely planted with Sangiovese with some Merlot, Colorino, Malvasia Nera and Cabernet Sauvignon vines also planted. The cellar at Fonterutoli, designed by architect, Agnesi Mazzei, is one of the most impressive in the region, and has a minimal impact on the environment.
