Made from some of the best-quality pinot noir grapes in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys region, Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir 2020 is a concentrated yet elegant wine, heady on the nose, rich in dark fruits, with a silky finish.
A full-bodied red wine with fine tannins; fragrant, earthy and aromatic. This is an appealing all-rounder with rich, fruity flourishes.
Established in 1985 by Kevin Judd and David Hohnen, Cloudy Bay was one of the first vineyards in the Marlborough wine region on New Zealand's South Island, establishing itself as the standard by which all New Zealand wines are judged. Named after the nearby bay whose waters turn cloudy when the Wairau River fills them with silt, Cloudy Bay wines embrace the quintessential expression of the pristine, bracing, pure flavours of New Zealand.
Its reputation and quality helped put New Zealand wines on the global wine map, earning them international prestige.
Our Pinot Noir comes from the cool clay soils and rolling, northfacing slopes of Marlborough's Southern Valleys region. The aged alluvial gravels and dense clay subsoils balance drainage and water availability to yield the region's best Pinot Noir grapes.
With over 30 years of experience with the variety in this region, our sites are selected carefully and each vineyard tended with care. The vines are trained with vertical shoot positioning to make the most of the sunlight. The key vineyards for this variety are Mustang, Delta, and Barracks.
Grown on the cool clay soils and rolling slopes of Marlborough’s Southern Valleys region, the pinot noir harvest came at the optimum time after near-perfect conditions in the vineyards. The full-flavoured, concentrated and complex fruit was gravity-fed into open-top fermentation tanks, with 7% whole-bunch inclusion. After 100% malolactic fermentation, the wine was matured in French oak for 11 months.
