From Araldica's magnificent Gavi estate, La Battistina. This is a high quality, complex white widely regarded as a benchmark for this DOCG.
Aromatic, zesty, sherbety nose with apple and pears, lime and passionfruit, and a hint of minerality. Juicy, weighty fruit with a zippy, citric acid mouthwatering feel creating a refreshing, satisfying finish.
To the South and East of the Monferrato, in the last corner of Piemonte before Liguria, lies the DOC area of Gavi. La Battistina is a 20 hectare estate situated around the town of Gavi. The vineyards are south facing and the soil, chalky and mineral, which allows full ripening and excellent drainage. This and the neighbouring 61 hectare estate La Raia, from which grapes are also sourced, are renowned as among the best sites in Gavi. La Battistina itself is divided into two distinctive areas, producing two very different wines; the majority of the grapes go to produce Gavi La Battistina, a wine with poached pear characters and zingy acidity to balance the long finish.
Delicious with appetisers and light fish courses.
