This is the youngest Mâcon appellation, created in 1999. Its soils cover 4 communes and are partially made up of "cray”, a type of limestone soil with magnificent white pebbles for Chardonnay.
Created in 1999, Viré-Clessé was the first Village appellation to come from the famous AOC Mâcon-Villages terroirs, where Chardonnay ripens exceptionally early. This charming wine is well-balanced with a fresh finish.
The vines are more than 55 years old and benefit from a very rich clay and limestone soil. Grown in harmony with nature with regular ploughing and manual harvesting.
The wine has a brilliant gold colour, somewhere between white, gold and yellow, with in some cases green highlights.
With a bouquet of mayflowers and acacia, the wine reveals springtime honeysuckle and broom aromas, together with hints of lemon, white peach, verbena and mint. As the wine ages, quince jam and pine make their appearance. Lively and fresh, with a slight edge and yet well-rounded, this wine is a reliable introduction to the Mâconnais whites. It is delicate and supple with a touch of nervosity.
To be served at 11-13° C with fish, seafood, white meat and goat cheese.
