Typical red berry fruit on the nose underpinned by subtle oaky nuances. Flavours are densely packed, layer upon layer of primary red fruit are refined by smooth oaky subtleties bound up in a finely woven structure. In the long finish the intensity of the vintage shines as the wine ‘grows’ in the glass. ‘Les Coteaux’ is made to relish on release but the finely grained tannins are likely to lend longevity to the 2010 so it could be well worth squirreling some away.

Common practice in the Côtes du Rhône is to bottle the best cuvées as a single named Village wine and the rest as basic Rhône Villages. Boutinot’s philosophy, on the other hand, is to start with the intention of making the very best Côtes du Rhône Villages possible by sourcing wine from the vineyards of named villages and enriching them with a small proportion of barrel-aged wine from Sablet, Séguret & Cairanne. Boutinot Rhȏne 'Les Coteaux' is therefore a selection of the best Grenache & Syrah from some of the 17 named Côtes du Rhône Villages. Eric Monnin sources wine from a number of growers with exceptional terroir allowing him the flexibility to select only the very best fruit each vintage and reject parcels which do not meet our high standards.

Côtes du Rhône Villages enriched with barrels of ‘classified’ named Village wine from Cairanne, Sablet and Séguret. Mostly unoaked, a small proportion (15%) is part aged for 22 months in a few new but mostly older oak barrels to bring depth and subtle notes of complexity.

Grenache 85%, Syrah 15%

A delicious accompaniment to grilled meats, heart-warming casseroles or a classic shepherd's pie.

2012 Vintage: "According to Boutinot, "common practice" in the Rhône is to use the best fruit and bottle it as a named village, and use the remaining, lesser grapes to make a straight Côtes du Rhône Villages. Boutinot, by contrast, turns that on its head, sourcing the best fruit from the Rhône's 17 villages and topping it up with small doses of barrel-aged wine from Sablet, Séeguret and Cairrane. Such is the recipe for Les Coteaux, which, in the words of the Top 100 judges, is a "great example of a Villages wine that has well-balanced ripe black cherry fruit, soft tannins and is right on the money"."
The Wine Merchant 'Top 100' 2015, Judges Comments

2012 Vintage: "'Sweet Grenache fruit on the nose and palate. Simple and rather pleasing,' said team leader Martin Lam, with Roger Jones of The Harrow at Little Bedwyn adding: 'Clean, bright and precise, blackcurrant cordial, fresh and lively with notes of saddle leather.'"
Sommelier Wine Awards 2015, Judges Comments

2010 Vintage:"Bright and clean dark berry fruit. Not at all confected, but warm, sweet and welcoming. Incredibly drinkable, with the sensation of biting into a ripe strawberry and letting the juice run down your chin. Fresh, bright, and superb value."
Judges Comments, The Wine Merchant 'Top 50' 2013

2010 Vintage: " 'Plenty of red fruit and some intensity with fine tannins and fresh, juicy acidity. Long finish,' said Hakkasan's Christine Parkinson. 'Full-bodied with some spicy complexity – chunky, chewy and satisfying,' said Winetec's Tim Wildman MW."
Sommelier Wine Awards 2013, Judges Comments

2010 Vintage:88 Points in The Rhône Report. "The 2010 Les Côteaux has classic Côtes du Rhône aromas and flavors of currants, ground pepper, tobacco leaf, and spice to go with a medium-bodied, fresh and lively palate. Showing the vintage purity and freshness, with ripe tannin, it is a solid, delicious effort that will drink nicely for 3-5 years".
Jeb Dunnuck, March 2013
