This excellent pils is brewed with the world-famous Saazer hops. Hopfenkonig has a crisp, clean, dry hoppy nose and aromatic flavours. It is a perfect aperitif beer.
After an extensive lagering period of 12 weeks, we’re left with a lightly golden Hopfenkonig Pils that is very easy to drink. The Saaz hops give a moderately spicy character and solid bitterness that is a great complement to the soft malty sweetness. Smooth and light, this is a truly excellent beer.
There has been commercial brewing at Eggenberg since 1681, with beer made there since at least the 1100s. Eggenberg belonged to a Benedictine monastery and can be found on the border of Salzburg and Passau; a famous Austrian brewery producing an eclectic mix of beers.
Castle Eggenberg is the oldest family owned brewery in Austria. It dates back at least to the year 999 A.D. At this time the beer was brewed only for the inhabitants of the surrounding villages. Since 1681 the Castle Brewery Eggenberg has been brewing on a commercial basis.
The Schloss Eggenberg Hopfenkönig is the pinnacle beer of the brewery and is a delicately herbal pilsner slowly matured and highly fermented which radiates a lightly golden gloss.
It is brewed exclusively of natural raw ingredients after the purity requirement of 1516.
