When Tohu launched in 1988 we were the world's first Maori-owned wine company. Since then we’ve grown a reputation for producing premium wine in a range of varieties, winning awards for our Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Methode Traditionnelle.

The 2017/2018 growing season began with unsettled weather that brought plenty of rain during flowering and resulted in slightly lower yields. • a combination of warm and wet summer provided challenges for the vineyard. Ripe clean fruit was ready for harvest on Mar 2018.

Hand-harvested grapes, gently whole-bunch pressed. Unsettled juice then moved to old French oak puncheons for fermentation. Fermentation with natural ‘wild’ yeasts, with a cultivated yeast added part way through fermentation to assist the wine to dryness. Post-fermentation, each barrel underwent twice weekly batonage (lees stirring). Malolactic fermentation occurred once the weather warmed in the spring. Individual barrel assessment, with only the best deemed exceptional enough to make the final blend. Bottled March2019 - 4225 bottles produced.
