Brewed in Munich, the Augustiner Lagerbier is easily one of the best German lagers money can buy. This fantastic beer is still served from wooden barrels at Oktoberfest (in a pre and post-pandemic world) and is a big hit among traditionalists. It pours a clear, straw colour and you can enjoy a big whiff of traditional German hops on the nose. As you take your first sip you'll notice a bit of sweetness upfront with a perfectly balanced, dry bitter finish. At 5.2% ABV, the Augustiner Helles is a cracking sessionable beer that can be enjoyed year round and is especially refreshing in the garden on a hot summer day or simply cracked open at the end of a long work week.
Munich’s oldest independent brewery, Augustiner-Bräu was founded in 1328 within the monastery of the Augustinian Brotherhood. Production has moved over the years as secularisation and privatisation took hold, but the brewery has maintained its sense of place and history.
