This is the result of Madame Bollinger’s great vision: an expert wine with aromas enhanced by its exceptionally long maturation, it will last forever; It is also James Bond’s favourite champagne.

Madame Bollinger created this legendary vintage in 1967, giving the world the opportunity to taste a champagne aged on lees for an exceptionally long time but was still fresh and aromatic - a small revolution in the world of Champagne. The 2002 release celebrates 50 years of the Bollinger R.D. Vintage. Produced exclusively with wines from cuvée juice, the 23 Crus used (71% being Grands crus and 29% Premier crus) are fermented in small oak barrels and is aged in cellar for more than three times longer than required by the appellation. After manual riddling and disgorging, the wine rests for a minimum of 3 months prior to release. An expert wine, with aromas enhanced by its exceptionally long maturation. Only the very best among vintage champagnes become Bollinger R.D. and 2002 is one of the most promising vintages of the last decade.

Golden hues with aromas of stewed, ripe quince and hints of honey, followed by cocoa and finishing with roasted spices such as nutmeg and anise. A full bodied style but superbly balanced with a persistent flavour. Minerality resonates on the finish with touches of lemon revealing a pleasing bitterness.

Blend of the 2002 vintage:
60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay 23 crus: 71% Grands crus, 29% Premiers crus

Only the very best among vintage champagnes become Bollinger R.D.: 2002 is definitely one of the most promising vintages of the last decade. The wine undergoes a very long maturation, more than three times longer than required by the appellation, for an infinite array of flavours: a true wine alchemy. The dosage is very low: "Extra Brut"", 3 to 4 grams per litre.

Bollinger R.D. will enhance all gourmet cuisine but its aura is such that it creates a special occasion on its own. Offering it as a gift is a sign of a great friendship.

In order to fully appreciate its unique style, bouquet and aromas, it is best served between 8 and 10°C, or more.

Bollinger R.D. can be enjoyed right away to appreciate the exceptional freshness due to its recent disgorging; you may also choose to let it mature further: its ageing potential is endless.

Will pair with all types of risotto, especially mushrooms or truffle risotto. Venison or Old Comté or Swiss Gruyère cheese.

“Very firm, savoury nose with Bollinger’s trademark fungi. Very powerfully but with excellent acidity and lift on the palate. It has real weight - though does not taste heavy. I loved it on first release as Grande Année and it is less austere now. A bit mellower and more open though still with the deep throat salve sensation on the finish. 19/20”
