Aromas of dark plums, wet earth, cedar, baking spices. Flavours of strawberry, sour cherry, hints of violet, orange zest notes and stony. Mouth-watering acidity, generous palate.
This Cinsault comes from vines planted 60 years ago on the granitic soils of Guarilihue, the more coastal area of the Itata. It’s an area that usually yields tense, fresh wines, as in this case, where the red fruits and floral notes of the Cinsault meld into the acidity and the juicy, medium body with a firm, rolling texture. A wine that’s both fruity and mineral and full of earthy tones on the finish.
Canadian ex-ski coach, Derek Mossmann Knapp, is the enfant terrible of the Chilean wine scene. He set up Garage Wine Co. with his wife Pilar Miranda and Dr. Alvaro Pena in 2001 with the intention of being the polar opposite to the big, established companies that dominate the Chilean market. Derek sources his grapes from a variety of local growers, and the resulting wines are as diverse as the people who grew them. Each parcel of grapes is vinified separately, producing tiny quantities of wine. And you can taste this diversity in each separate bottle. To distinguish the wines, they are each labelled with an individual 'Lot' number determined by its parcel and vintage.
Single Ferment Series, like a "Village wine" wines include fruit from more than one parcel or vineyard site and are (co-fermented) ¨in one singular ferment ¨ Sometimes all the fruit does not enter the tank at same time and we simply stack on top of the fermenting tank when the next fruit is ripe -- one single ferment one single wine.
