Open and expressive nose with aromas of apricot, orchard fruit, white flower and citrus. The palate has minerality and texture with ripe tropical notes of pineapple and stone fruit, underpinned by racy acidity and a touch of salinity.
Monte Schiavo is owned by the Pieralisi family and this wine, launched in 2016, represents the finest expression of Verdicchio from their prized Colle del Sole vineyard, picked at full ripeness and naturally vinified.
The grapes are sourced from Monte Schiavo's most prized vineyard of Colle del Sole - situated right next to the winery. The Verdicchio vines are Guyot trained on 4 hectares of rich clay and silt soils, on the eastern slope around 120m altitude. The grapes are harvested at the start of October, and undergo spontaneous fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks using natural yeasts. The wine was then aged on fine lees for about 5 months.
Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate suggests that you serve with stuffed courgettes and fried artichokes.
