Fruit driven, with an almost New World style, red and black berries to the fore; the palate hints at fine pastries with notes of vanilla.
A deep red cherry colour with a youthful purple edge. The aromatic intensity is beautiful with ripe red berries, nicely integrated with the wood (12 months in 50% American and 50% French oak barrels). This discreet, friendly wine has a nice soft structure, sweet tannins and light nuances of toasted wood. The palate shows strawberry, raisins, plums and spices. You experience the quality on the basis of the intensity of the palate and the long finish.
Tempranillo grapes from the Rioja Alta region, in vineyards close to the village of Cuzcurrita de Rio Tiron in the north-west of the region. There are three distinctly different types of soils in the vineyards here: claystone, stony and iron-clayish, providing grapes with plenty of character. The hand-harvested grapes from old vines undergo a traditional fermentation followed by ageing; in oak barrel for a year and bottle for nine months.
Casa Rojo was founded in the year 2010 by the husband and wife team of José Luis Gómez and Laura Muñoz, the enologists and directors of Casa Rojo. Their passion for the world of wine led them to embark on a wine tour of Spain with the goal of representing the most important Spanish terroirs and native grape varieties, to faithfully reflect the aromas of each area. A mixture of modernity and respect for tradition informs the decision making, and so far is being met with success and delicious wines!
Best served with chargrilled meats, red meat casseroles and even pasta dishes.
